Use an adequate bullet and you don’t need expansion.

I sent this in to the NRA’s Armed Citizen Dept but have yet to get a reply from the obviously awestruck staffers:

OK, you asked for any NRA Member Armed Citizen experiences, and here is an Occupied Premises Home Invasion to chill you to the bone. Or warm the cockles of your heart, depending on which side you identify with.

Sunday night, October 2nd, my wife, Valerie, and I were quietly reading in our living room in Aiea, Hawaii, when I noticed movement across the room. Stealthily I picked up a short stack of mail and beat the perp senseless. Valerie asked if he was dead. Nope: while lying stunned on the floor, he looked like he might soon resume his nefarious activities.

My Inner Machismo took over. I manfully picked up a 24 pound cast steel self defense cannonball lying ready for any eventuality on the floor by my feet, stood over the stunned perp and dropped it on him.

I’ve heard of the questionable practice of killing a mosquito with a hammer, but I can say with the Authority of Experience that a 24 pound cast steel solid shot does a fine and decisive job on an Occupied Premises Home Invading cockroach. None of your controlled expansion hollow points needed.

N.B.: while I had to drop the shot by hand, that was not entirely due to the pernicious Hawaii state ban on cannons from which to shoot it. Even if I had one, firing a 24 pounder in the living room would violate several of the rules of safety, as well as stressing our windows, perforating several neighbors’ houses, and drawing unwanted and unnecessary attention. Our insurance agent might get all squinty eyed as well.

Lesson Learned: the debate over 9mm vs .45 is for amateurs. Use a big enough bullet and you need not worry about expansion.

Documentary Evidence:

TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-68309905753184215482022-03-17T10:43:00.000-10:002022-03-17T10:43:19.729-10:00I Hate Packing
I hate packing.

This morning I was packing for a family reunion in Costa Rica, all alone at the airport in an outdoor cafe with round glass top tables and white wrought iron chairs and people in white short sleeves relaxed all around me drinking tropical drinks and smiling and conversing lightly and smiling my way, and green plants growing up between the cement floor tiles, five shoulder bags stuffed full and frantically trying to figure out how to get them down to two carry ons which was tough because they were all full of I know not what when I realized I could cram them all into one big suitcase and hyperventilating bug eyed when I realized I was only allowed two carry ons and the big suitcase wasn’t gonna work so I abandoned all hope of packing the chrome yellow cast iron Dutch oven and the blankets and the chrome plated shelf unit and still couldn’t figure out how to make it all work and turned over chairs running for the airplane and then I woke up.

I hate packing.
TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-71305439625912216822021-12-17T09:38:00.000-10:002021-12-17T09:38:41.590-10:00What Will The Future Bring?
A response to https://dickiefloydnovels.com/fleeing-california/

“Boise will soon be more like Portland…where ANTIFA is allowed to terrorize its citizens while the police are ordered to stand down.”

I’ve been watching this going on around the country for decades, mostly thinking it was a normal left and right swing of the pendulum. I lived as a kid in suburban Milwaukee when the race riots of the 1960s were going on in what was then called the Inner Core, Spanish Harlem in the mid-1980s when the crack wars were going -a long shot from Harlem proper where the wars were really going, but the building manager opened a trash can one morning and found a drug dealer looking at him, or at least the late lamented’s head doing so. Milwaukee again after that with more of the crack wars, but in the Lower East Side in what was a wonderful walking neighborhood…except in Wisconsin only criminals could carry a gun in those days so walking to and from a movie theater at night meant ostentatiously carrying a 5D cell Maglite to tell urban sophisticates that while I wasn’t invulnerable, pickings would likely be easier from the next person.

The City of Milwaukee’s response to all the killings: shut down the Milwaukee Gun Club, a lakefront trap shooting facility since the 19th century, because shooting league trap causes violent street crime.

I remember talking about it with family members who lived nearby: their hostility toward the trap club was sanctimonious and intense -and toward me as well for defending trap shooters as unrelated to crack heads murdering store clerks, carjacking at gunpoint, and producing crack babies who cost $65,000 to keep alive their first month- made no sense but was very real. Reality didn’t matter to them: people were being murdered with guns, trap shooters used guns, therefore trap shooting led to gun culture to violence to murder. End of trap shooting on the lakefront.

Then the pendulum swung back toward sanity. The Mariel Boatlift took place, the Miami police chief went public, telling the law abiding to get guns because the police were unable to protect them, Florida became the modern pioneer of shall issue carry permits, and that led the way nationally in what proved to be an amazing cultural transformation over the next forty years. So maybe we can thank Fidel Castro for Americans starting to take the right to carry a gun seriously again,

Now…things feel different. The Democratic Party, which used to be a party of people with whom I usually disagreed on policy but at least seemed then to be rational and patriotic, is controlled by people who have used the peaceful political process to infiltrate and take over every governmental bureaucracy including the school systems, people who outspokenly hate America even as they lie about our history. They hate America, they hate white people, they hate any non-white people who don’t hate white people, they hate individualism, hate capitalism, some even talked publicly during the last election of ‘what we will have to do with Republicans’: re-education camps, prosecutions, prohibiting Republicans from voting. The frothing at the mouth ‘newscasters’ spending four years lying, not daily or hourly but how many times per hour: The President is a proven racist, a white supremacist, a Russian agent, a rapist, he praised the Charlotte white supremacists as ‘good people’, the protests are mostly peaceful even as cities burned, Kyle Rittenhouse is a white supremacist militia member, the Hunter Biden laptop was Russian disinformation, as the apolitical FBI buried it for a year and we never would have heard of it if that shop owner hadn’t made a copy of the hard drive and made it public…in time for our Democratic/Progressive friends to shut down the New York Post’s entire Twitter feed during the last weeks of the presidential campaign for daring to break the political story, but spent an occasional 15 seconds telling our friends who trust them that it was Russian disinformation. Go back to sleep.

It all feels very different from the 1960s and 1980s. Corporate control of the news media is far more concentrated today, with far fewer people making policy decisions, with entertainment companies which have massive investments in communist China also owning news companies which must not be allowed to offend the Chinese…even if they wanted to, which they apparently don’t. It feels different today.

In the 1960s big city Democratic politicians tried to put down the riots. Today they praise the rioters, urge people to contribute money to bail funds for those few arrested, and order the police to stand down as their precinct houses are burned.

What we didn’t know decades ago was how deep the rot in the federal government already went. Imagine that at the height of the Cold War the CIA hired a guy who admitted while taking his lie detector test that he had voted for Communist Party USA candidate Gus Hall for President. Voted communist at the height of the Cold War. No problem. Then eventually made him Director of the CIA. Wouldn’t that be the stuff of a ludicrous novel you didn’t bother reading to the end? Meet CIA Director John Brennan. Newsweek said “…Brennan's admittance that he voted for Communist Party leader Gus Hall for president in 1976…has regularly been scrutinized by his critics, there is no evidence that he was a member of the Communist Party.”

Ah, well, in that case: Brennan was never a MEMBER, or at least there is no evidence. Nothing to see here. Move along. Or else be branded a conspiracy theorist by Democrat-owned Newsweek. The future Director of of the CIA voted for Gus Hall in 1976: he admitted it to the CIA and was hired anyway. Then he was promoted, eventually to Director.

At the same time, national government dictates to school districts (lest they lose their precious funding) that boys so severely mentally ill that they think they are really girls must be allowed to shower with the girls. Sports associations dictate that boys claiming to be girls must be allowed to compete as girls. And the girls, young women, and their parents complain but accept it.

I’m actually surprised there has been so little violence committed by outraged athletes and parents against the thugs who have taken over. Not a single outraged parent has walked into a school board meeting and gunned down the board, even as rational, informed discourse is denounced by the left as a tool of white supremacy.

What is left when civil discourse and debate are made socially unacceptable because they are ‘racist’? I know of only two things: submission and violence.

One leads to our becoming like East Germany with a corporate/government information gathering and control system which puts the Stasi to shame, the other to war. Corporate ‘news’/social media is already adopting its own version of China’s social credit system: offend the Powers and find your Twitter account canceled even if you are the President of the United States, report on inconvenient news and your Twitter account will be shut down until you submit, New York Post. Are you an epidemiologist who doesn’t agree with Dr. Fauci? YouTube will take down your videos and Facebook will shut you down. Offend Google by writing a memo complete with direct quotes and footnotes from refereed journals, questioning the efficacy of Google’s hiring and promotion practices? You are fired, James Damore, because Google values diversity. And submission. Are you a bank providing financial services to gun companies or an insurance company providing insurance to the NRA? What do you do when you get a letter from the governor of New York saying in as many words that if you continue to do so, that will be taken into consideration when the state regulators next look into renewing your license to do business?

Pardon me for seeing a Soviet system already in place and growing.

The question isn’t ‘Will there be violence?’ Violence is already occurring, from shooting Republicans at a softball practice to burning cities to executing LEOs on the street.

What I wonder is ‘Will there be a meaningful response in kind, so meaningful that it exceeds the Progressives’ ability to crush?’ That would be a lot of violence, and it might very well not exceed their ability to crush it. Imagine the results of that scenario. I saw the beginning of the Lebanese civil war in the Fall of 1975, and briefly in the Spring of 1977. We don’t want to go there. Guaranteed, we do not want to go there.

The entire world would pay for America taking itself off the world stage while China and Russia run amok, and there is no predicting what the results of that would be for America…other than that they would not be good.

I had a pleasant fantasy a while back, that when the mayor of a city orders the police chief to pull the police out of a BLM/Antifa riot/looting/arson/insurrection, and the chief complies, some of the police arrest the mayor and the chief for conspiracy to commit riot, looting, arson, and insurrection, and when a judge orders them released, the police arrest the judge as well for the same acts. Repeat as needed.

Unfortunately, in real life the question then becomes ‘and then what?’ In real life we get federal troops brought in to crush the ‘insurrection’ by the police while CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, and the NYT froth at the mouth about the traitors and white supremacists (including the non-white ones), and Google/Twitter/Facebook et al go full propaganda, convincing at least half the country. Then perhaps we get a real hard core East Germany-like America, or perhaps a Lebanese civil war on steroids. Or first a civil war and then a StasiUSA.

So I don’t see any good alternatives, because this doesn’t feel like a simple swing of the political pendulum. The other side has too thorough a command of news, ‘news’, communication, education, prosecutors, the FBI, CIA, and the state and federal bureaucracies. People who control the colleges which are training the future state and federal judiciary, the ‘news’ elite, the communications companies, the future executives of our biggest corporations, seem firmly in control.

So I don’t know what is going to happen over the next twenty years. I’ve long asked a question of those who demand to ban guns, or certain types of guns: In 1910, how many sane Germans would have claimed it was even possible that within the remaining lifetime of an already middle-aged German, the government of one of the most industrially, educationally, economically, and artistically sophisticated countries on earth would build extermination factories and run over six million innocent civilians through them? Yet 35 years later the Holocaust was already over.

Today the Left dehumanizes their opponents too. ‘MAGATS’: dehumanizing them as insect larva. Some Lefties call for re-education camps for Republicans and their children. Banning their voting. Prosecutions. Throw them out of college. Fire them. Sound familiar? A little bit?

I don’t know what the next couple decades will bring, but geographic sorting is going to continue. Perhaps the response to lefties moving to places like Boise should be to stop being polite to them. Tell them in as many words that they aren’t welcome as neighbors, to go back to the beds they made in California.

That doesn’t sound like a good way to build a unified community but there may not be a way to do so, because they aren’t likely to leave their neighbors alone: they will take over the local government, and with that they will have respectability and power.
TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-13316738348712715282021-11-11T21:15:00.000-10:002021-11-11T21:15:10.715-10:00Armistice Day

TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-55361999461432130442021-11-09T13:07:00.009-10:002021-11-09T13:17:58.490-10:00Democratic Party Treason

The entire project to thwart the Trump election campaigns and to throw him out of office, but the most senior officials of the Democratic Party and the most senior officials of the intelligence and law enforcement bureaucracies, was treason. In America. The heads of the CIA, FBI, the Justice Department, Adam Schiff, Chuck Schumer, the entire top of the Clinton Campaign. And the Democratic Party operatives who have taken over most of the news services. A coup.

I have trouble imagining what America would be like in Hillary Clinton’s second administration if it had worked early enough to defeat Trump in 2016. I hope these traitors get fair trials and very, very long prison sentences, but I won’t hold my breath. They may already be unstoppable. Or a national Battle of Athens (check Wikipedia if you’re unfamiliar with it, because that’s the county level version of what we’re seeing nationally) which would be about as awful a lesser evil as lesser evils get.

https://fb.watch/9awTVJXHxI/

TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-45558610678915627692021-11-04T13:06:00.002-10:002021-11-04T13:06:31.389-10:00Incoming!

TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-62957873487218422982021-02-26T11:09:00.002-10:002021-02-26T13:05:31.688-10:00Chinese Assault Mango
Totally unregulated Chinese Assault Mango:

Notice that while President The Donald held office these Chinese Assault Mangoes were too afraid to commit any depredations against America. Whiteness is open to all. Whiteness isn’t racial.

“Rooted in America’s ugly history of white supremacy, indigenous dispossession and anti-blackness, multiracial whiteness is an ideology invested in the unequal distribution of land, wealth, power and privilege — “

In other words, individualist, not collectivist, not Marxist, pro-capitalism. What fiends.

“a form of hierarchy in which the standing of one section of the population is premised on the debasement of others.”

Yep: that’s Marxist. No question. I spent too much time living with German Marxists in West Berlin to miss that. Capitalism is for the purpose of debasing others, unlike Marxism of course, which liberates, uplifts, and revels in...uh...gulags for the Politically Incorrect.

Oh, wait: “Multiracial whiteness reflects an understanding of whiteness as a political color and not simply a racial identity —“

So why call it “whiteness”? Oh...maybe because concepts of individualism and capitalism were developed in Europe, which at the time was white? Therefore treating people as individuals instead of members of an irrelevant collective is racist. Uh huh.

Maybe just because the author is a racist?

“ a discriminatory worldview in which feelings of freedom and belonging are produced through the persecution and dehumanization of others.”

Treating people as individuals dehumanizes them, treating them as interchangeable members of a group humanizes them, like being mad at a particular cop in St. Louis so you shoot five cops in Dallas humanizes them because cops are interchangeable members of the Cop Collective. Check. Got it.

“Multiracial whiteness promises Latino Trump supporters freedom from the politics of diversity and recognition.”

Well, the author did get that right. ‘Multiracial whiteness’ is an unneeded, stupid racist term for ‘individualism’, but OK, I do have low expectations for the thinking processes of collectivists. Really low. Anyone who can look at the 20th and 21st centuries’ history of real world collectivism and real world individualism and conclude that collectivism produced better results for the people at the bottom of the population has meaningful cognitive disabilities. Fully qualified to draw a paycheck at any university or WaPo.

“For voters who see the very act of acknowledging one’s racial identity as itself racist, the politics of multiracial whiteness reinforces their desired approach to colorblind individualism.”

Yeah, individualism and capitalism do that, little racist honeybunny. Colorblind individualism does that. Colorblind individualism is a good thing because treating people as individuals is a good thing. By the way: When are you going to tear down the monument of Martin Luther King?

“In the politics of multiracial whiteness, anyone can join the MAGA movement“

Do tell: race isn’t very important to individualists. Wow: what a racist concept. I guess you better work to stamp THAT out of existence.

Oh: yeah: you are.

“and engage in the wild freedom of unbridled rage and conspiracy theories.”

Conspiracy theories like the Democrats made unconstitutional changes in voting laws in the days before the election, in the swing states? And those changes made fraud easier?

“Multiracial whiteness offers citizens of every background the freedom to call Muslims terrorists,...”

Or to call some terrorists “Muslim” just because that is what they call themselves and tell us in as many words that they base their violence on their interpretation of Islam.

“...demand that undocumented immigrants be rounded up and deported,...” for no better reason that that’s the law.

“...deride BLM as a movement of thugs and criminals,”

Yep, it is. Marxist, too. They say so.

“...and accuse Democrats of being blood-drinking pedophiles.”

Your goblet overflows. It isn’t the Republicans who revere child rapers like Roman Polanski. Read his 13 year old victim’s affidavit, taken a couple days after he drugged her and raped her vaginally and anally. Google it: it isn’t hard to find. Like Democrats who defend him.

This is your Washington Post. What a filthy company.

TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-1814539753906517242021-01-03T08:45:00.000-10:002021-01-03T08:45:04.587-10:00
Even Canadians are losing patience.

“For years we have taught our children to respect police, and now our children and grandchildren are witness to their fathers and grandfathers receiving charges from police for worshipping Christ with our church....”

“Our government is destroying our society to prevent the spread of a virus with a fraction of a fractional death rate. This is evil...”

"...We have ancestors who fought in wars to protect us from state abuses of this nature, and many of our families fled police states that eerily resemble what we are being subjected to at the present.”

I’ve been wondering what happens when the respectable middle class starts to view police and government in general as the Enemy. In today’s money, $2500/ month. Did I mention it was a fourth floor walk up?

Defund the Police. Release the oppressed people in jails as the new LA Prosecutor has vowed to do. Because Social Justice. That’ll cure our cities.

The Crack Wars were going when I moved to New York. Spanish Harlem was actually pretty safe as it was a tight neighborhood where people socialized on the front steps, so they knew who belonged on the street and who didn’t.

We had a very nice guy from Costa Rica as manager. His first day on the job he opened a trash can and found a drug dealer looking at him. At least the drug dealer’s head was looking at him. Welcome to the Big Apple🍎, Enrique!

My first week in NY, riding the subway, and as the doors closed as the train pulled out of a station a guy slammed between them and out, with a gold chain he’d broken off a woman’s neck on the way. Same week I’m walking down the sidewalk...West 11th street...guy runs toward me and past, followed by a guy with a .38 snubby. Ah. That’s ok. .38 snubby = cop. Still the first week: guy with at least a dozen layers of clothes, none of which have been washed in at least a decade, standing behind a dumpster committing..um...inappropriate touching to himself. Quite enthusiastically. Keep moving: this is The Big Apple🍎.

The apartment rental agent, an old friend, tells me of an apartment I’d looked at but not taken. Real nice kid from Indiana took it. Young, clean cut. Innocent. Then he moved out a week later. Bad tenant, huh? Hmmm: got burgled three times his first seven days, the third time after spending $800 of his own money on burglar bars. Turned out the guy in the unit above was a junky who was teaching his five year old brother a trade: lowered the little bro out the window by his foot so he could get in the newbie’s window and open the door for his big brother. Give a kid a fish....

Another week, back in Spanish Harlem, big crash in the alley: three people pile out of another building’s window, slamming each other with 2x4s. Yeah: not like Hollywood. 2x4s break bones. Call the cops. Another guy shows up with a .38 snubby in hand.

My next door neighbor, very smart, very attractive woman in her twenties. Her boyfriend signed up for welfare, spent his entire first payment on drugs, except for a dollar seventy five he dropped on a present to demonstrate how much he loved her. Yeah. He got a job driving a limo, came home and told us he was going to work his way up, buy his own limo, and another. Make a lot of money. He was too stoned to go to work the next day. End of limo service ownership for him. His girlfriend, my neighbor, edited children’s primary school books for a major publishing house. She was still living with him three years later, because judging him would be just too harsh. Actually, since she paid all the bills, he was living with her. Don’t be harsh.

I only rode a bus through black Harlem, north of Central Park, a couple times, but that was Crack Wars Central. Both time I saw guys fighting in the middle of the street, middle of the day. Knock down, drag out fighting. No guns tho. At least that I saw, but I was on a Greyhound. Nobody paying any attention.

That’s what a city can be like when the politicians and more importantly the people who vote for them value criminals more than they value the decent people, and the decent people buy the politicians’ patter.

Because Social Justice. Or something.

Watch what happens to all the Social Justice Meccas over the next few years.

Ideally from a distance.
TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-46167682150051966832020-10-17T15:09:00.001-10:002020-10-17T15:19:12.623-10:00Tearing Down an Obelisk Monument In Santa FeThis is our country on Democrats.

-The police showed up in force just before the

Biden Jr. will travel to Kenosha, Wis., on Thursday and his campaign has unveiled a new television ad condemning the rioters and looters that have vexed some American cities...”
Vexed. As in “I’ll vex you with a baseball bat and a flaming bottle of gasoline!” Vexed?
“...Mr. Trump...countered Mr. Biden’s moves with two new ads seeking to leverage civil unrest in incendiary fashion as a wedge to divide the Democratic coalition....”
‘In INCENDIARY fashion’? After three months of the Democrat shock troops burning down cities with encouragement and explicit support of Democratic mayors, Democratic prosecutors who turn arrestees loose without their ever seeing the inside of a cell and refusing to prosecute them, and Biden campaign committee members contributing money to bail funds so those who are briefly locked up can be released the same night so they can vex cities with some more flaming bottles of gasoline, Trump acts in INCENDIARY fashion?
“ Mr. Trump is trying to prosecute those arguments and persuade voters to see threats to public safety...”
Uh, ‘persuade’? As in ‘perceive vexatious firebombings encouraged by Democrats‘ as a threat?
‘...which so far have been limited to sporadic violence in some cities...”
The Blitz was limited to sporadic violence in some English cities, of course. The Civil War was limited to sporadic violence in some states. The Russian pogroms against Jews were limited to sporadic violence in some places. The Lebanese Civil War was limited to sporadic violence for fifteen years. I’ll bet the the whole lot of them didn’t realize they were vexed, though. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/09/02/us/politics/biden-ads-trump.html

It’s now July, the conventions haven’t even been held, and we are already seeing mind numbing violence in major cities around the country, aided and praised by mayors, city council members and governors alike.

They allow the mob to pull down statues, not merely of Confederate generals, but an abolitionist who was killed at Antietam (Madison, Wisconsin), George Washington and Thomas Jefferson for participating in a slavery system which predated their births worldwide for thousands of years, Columbus, Cervantes (!), Lincoln, for being insufficiently race sensitive, and the targeting of police around the country.

And the mayors applaud.

However this turns out isn’t likely to be good.TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-17291422986998475722019-10-01T08:36:00.000-10:002019-10-01T08:36:54.714-10:00Democrats and Gun ControlWhen, several years ago, I pointed out the then current FBI homicide by weapon type data and included a link to the FBI website so doubters could check for themselves, I was told I’d “probably vote for Hitler” and that I was just fantasizing about shooting people.

These people are not open to reasoned debate. I think they are fervently pro-state violence so long as they control the state, and they intend to do exactly that with no qualms about methods.

Hence gun bans and speech bans, including, in NY city, quarter million dollar fines for Bad Speak.

These are not people of good will with whom we disagree. They are extremely dangerous, physically dangerous, thugs on the verge of complete control of the federal government and many state governments.TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-57090256166131959232019-08-07T09:39:00.000-10:002019-08-07T09:39:29.546-10:00What would happen if the police stopped responding?I wonder what would happen if Chicago government refused to remove bodies from the streets, under a ‘You made the mess, you clean it up’ policy.

Just leave them. June, July, August... It would get ugly in a day or two, and stay ugly. I know, it’s a sick, dark, fantasy which won’t come about, but just what would happen?

I don’t know what can be done in the short run to reduce the violent crime rate in places like Chicago. Judging from news reports and commentary, as I don’t live in such an area, the politicians who represent those districts seem to believe the major problem is homicidally racist cops who leave home in the morning hoping for an excuse to murder some innocent minorities.

If they really believe that, then they should be calling for the police to stop servicing those area. Just stay out. Let the neighborhoods take care of their own issues. It actually would be an interesting experiment, but I think that in order to have any hope of a positive outcome (at least from a non-criminal perspective) one would have to allow non-criminals to arm themselves.

My guess is that in that scenario, the seriously bad guys wouldn’t last long. I lived in Milwaukee back during the crack wars. There was an interesting incident which kind of fits the scenario, though of course the police did intervene:

A guy complained several times to the police that crack dealers were operating on the sidewalk in front of his house. Broad daylight. Seriously degrading life for decent ie non-criminal people in the neighborhood.

Nothing happened. No arrests, no imprisonments, crack dealers just kept dealing crack in front of his house. For weeks, maybe months. It was a long time ago and I’m fuzzy on that.

So one day the guy decided he had had enough of crack dealers in front of his house and an unresponsive government. He stuck a 12 gauge shotgun out the window and ended that crack dealer’s career.

Then of course the police showed up.

So, suppose they didn’t show up anymore, and all the decent people knew they wouldn’t?

As a moral issue, the government has no legitimate powers which the People have not delegated to it. If the government refuses to exercise those powers in a responsible manner, then the People have a right to take back those powers. So, if government has a legitimate power to protect individuals and neighborhoods from violent criminals, it is only because the people, having that same right, have delegated it to government.

Now, ideally, that would mean going through the peaceful political process, but in real life that process has collapsed in places like Chicago. So, since government has clearly decided they aren’t willing to exercise their powers, maybe the decent people who have to put up with the reality of criminals openly operating could simply take back the powers delegated and do the job themselves.

I have trouble thinking that would be any bloodier or sicker or more immoral than the system we have today in parts of Chicago, Los Angeles, or Baltimore. Right now it looks to me that for practical purposes the government is on the side of the violent criminals. Government disarms all the potential victims but lets the criminals run free in the Disarmed Victim Zones the government created.

How sick a system is that?TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-1206364987211706452019-07-22T10:28:00.000-10:002019-07-22T10:32:53.944-10:00The Emerging Budget Deal
For nearly forty years the Responsible Faction has told us that balancing the budget ‘this year’ would bring about the collapse of civilization. ‘But soon, yes, in a few years, we will balance it. But not now: Banks would be embarrassed, the economy would collapse. Millions would die.’

If we had ignored the Responsible Faction 35 years ago, balanced the budget, suffered the short term problems, and continued to ignore the Responsible Faction, we’d be in far better shape today.

Instead, we submitted to the Responsible Faction’s wisdom, because they spoke with great gravitas and wore expensive suits and had impressive credentials and spoke with great authority and now we have over twenty trillion dollars in federal debt which very likely will be paid off with highly inflated dollars which crush the value of our own savings into worthlessness.

Then we will find out that the experts were every one of them marching stark naked in a blizzard and no one had paid attention to the foolish children snickering and pointing and exclaiming at the naked fools in the snow.

So let the federal government run out of money, and grimly rejoice as Department after department shuts down and interest on the debt is unpaid as that would would do the best of all things: drive the federal government out of the credit markets for decades. There is no good way out of the mess we voters and non-voters alike have created for ourselves, and we are the ones who should suffer for our irresponsible voting habits and submission to the Wisdom of Experts. Better sooner than later, when the debt is forty trillion or fifty, because we were too foolish and submissive to bring down the Experts when the debt was three trillion, or when it was five trillion, or when it was ten trillion, or even fifteen.

If we continue to submit to the Wisdom of Experts with Gravitas, the eventual result may make the Terror of the French Revolution look mild, and none of us needs that.

I can’t think of any evidence for this. Are there any governments on earth which are smaller than they were ten years ago? Is Google’s power shrinking? Amazon’s? Big banks? Has Giant Faceless MegaCorp decided to break itself up into independent twenty employee segments?

We have seen in the last couple decades the creation of a global surveillance state of intertwined governments and private businesses which not even the Stasi could have dreamed of in their wildest drug induced fantasies.

We in the US have evolved from a nation of independent small business owners aka farmers and artisans, into a nation of employees trained to take orders. Our fundamental mindset has changed from that of owners into obedient order takers.

I see no evidence whatsoever that anyone in either major American political party would even consider overturning the foundation of the modern regulatory state -Wickard vs Filburn (look it up)- much less return our government to only those activities authorized by the Constitution.

The UN and leading politicians around the world are working openly to end national sovereignty, criminalize free speech including criticism of Islam and of immigration. Merkel may lose her office, but she has succeeded beyond the dreams of the mullahs in Islamizing Germany, and those people are not going to leave. Nor are those in France, Britain, Holland, Spain, or Italy.

Islam is hardly a force for decentralization, nor is the wave of socialism sweeping Americans who have been taught to despise individualism, capitalism, and the bourgeoisie.

Quite the contrary to decentralization: I think we are far more likely to see the complete politicization of economic activity coupled with a surveillance state like the world has never seen.TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-31169468288369883422018-11-28T08:41:00.000-10:002018-11-28T08:42:05.124-10:00The Oxford CommaThe Question of the Oxford Comma reared it’s ugly head today, so since I was weak on exactly what it is, I looked it up in Wikipedia. That was a mistake.

Wikipedia has more than I ever want to know about the Oxford comma. So much more that I chucked the reading of it after the Case of the Missing Comma aka O'Connor v. Oakhurst Dairy. Frank and Joe Hardy would have done a more engaging story. Heck, their mother could have, and she seemed to devote most of her time to baking cookies, or possibly running cocaine to Chicago, but F.W. Dixon never discussed that, so I don’t know for sure. She seemed way too good to be on the up and up. I’m less familiar with the cases of Nancy Drew, but I’m entirely satisfied she would have run rings around O'Connor v. Oakhurst Dairy while hedging her investments in the ax murder industry.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_comma

Good grief. This is the sort of article which so turned me off to language studies that I cannot for my very life tell you what an adverb is, nor a participle, dangling or otherwise, nor can I gin up the interest to remember even if someone were wishful, or wistful enough, as the case may or may not be, to tell me. Things of such dubious repute exist; that is sufficient and more. Participles and adverbs are like venereal diseases: I know there are people acutely, even joyously, involved in promulgating them, but I have no interest in joining.

I bet Dante didn’t know either (insert a comma or not, as you please) (had some nefarious meddler even invented participles and other such abominations by Dante’s day? Whoever foisted that horror upon us should have done some terminal dangling him or even herself, ideally from a naturally occurring oak cantilever) and he got around to write a decent thing or two. At least so some claim. Personally, I take my linguistical and culinary guidance alike from my hero and role model Huckleberry Finn. To wit:

While an inmate in the Widow Douglas’ house: "When you got to the table you couldn't go right to eating, but you had to wait for the widow to tuck down her head and grumble a little over the victuals, though there warn't really anything the matter with them. That is, nothing only everything was cooked by itself. In a barrel of odds and ends it is different; things get mixed up, and the juice kind of swaps around, and the things go better."

An even finer, and earlier manifestation of something, I can’t decide what, but surely literary, is Robinson Crusoe and his magnificent run on sentences, such as and to wit again:

After Crusoe was shipwrecked on his island and began to establish himself there, he discovered some stalks of rice and barley growing near his home. At first he was touched by God's goodness, but:

“At last it occurred to my thoughts that I had shaken a bag of chickens' meat [sic, that’s grain] out in that place, and then the wonder began to cease; and I must confess my religious thankfulness to God's providence began to abate too upon discovering that all this was nothing but what was common; though I ought to have been as thankful for so strange and unforeseen providence as if it had been miraculous: for it was really the work of Providence as to me that should order or appoint that ten or twelve grains of corn [sic] should remain unspoiled (when the rats had destroyed all the rest), as if it had been dropped from heaven; as also that I would throw it out in that particular place, where, it being in the shade of a high rock, it sprang up immediately; whereas, if I had thrown it anywhere else at the time, it had been burned up and destroyed.”

Now, that’s a sentence worthy of the writing. It’s unpretentious, it runs along, like a squash vine on the ground, putting out a fruit or some flowers now and then for one’s delectation, then turning back on itself and repeating in another direction without entirely losing the point, and meanders about until it decides it’s finished. It marches on, not boldly, but unselfconsciously, without worrying about participles, whatever they may be. Its a sentence the way sentences ought to be and sometimes were before the perfessers took ahold of them by the neck and strangled the life out of them and beat them on a rock like a piece of laundry just to be sure.

Another glory of the English language, on his struggle to make ceramics in which to store his grain harvest:

“It would make the reader pity me, or rather laugh at me, to tell how many awkward ways I took to raise this paste; what odd, misshapen, ugly things I made; how many of them fell in, and how many fell out, the clay not being stiff enough to bear its own weight; how many cracked by the overviolent heat of the sun, being set out too hastily; and how many fell in pieces with only removing as well before as after they were dried; and, in a word, how, after having laboured hard to find the clay, to dig it, to temper it, to bring it home and work it, I could not make above two large earthen ugly things- I cannot call them jars- in about two months' labour. “

Are those magnificent sentences er whut? I guarantee you Robinson Crusoe didn’t know a participle from a conundrum, but he got the idea across.

He had his reasons.

I’m not sure of the relationship but I think his wife was my great-great-great-grandmother’s first cousin. Something along those lines. Anyway, it isn’t my fault.

His name was William Lloyd Garrison, and he published a rabble-rousing abolitionist newspaper called The Liberator. At one point some Democrats in Boston lassoed him and dragged him through the streets on the way to tar and featherdom on Boston Common, but the sheriff came to the rescue by arresting Garrison and locking in the pokey. So Democrats’ behavior has improved, if only slightly, since then. They’re working on it tho.

“On July 4, 1854, he publicly burned a copy of the Constitution, condemning it as "a Covenant with Death, an Agreement with Hell," referring to the compromise that had written slavery into the Constitution.”

Now that’s a rabble rouser for you. We could use more Republicans like William Lloyd Garrison. The Democrats took sledge hammers to his printing press, and still he soldiered on. Burned the Constitution at a 4th of July rally. Just imagine.
It got marked by someone as spam, perhaps by accident or perhaps to hide it, but I asked it be revealed. we’ll see. In any case, my comment:

That was a thought provoking column. Thank you.
“And no, I’m not your enemy, whatever you tell me.” I’m not sure that I agree with that.

At one level it makes sense, in that German Jews/Jewish Germans weren’t enemies of Germany: they were Germans. Same with Austrians, Poles, Dutch, French Jews. However, the Nazis didn’t allow them to be other than enemies, and it didn’t matter as a practical issue if the Jews didn’t consider themselves enemies of the the Nazis.

I was in a voluntary organization many years ago in which two rival factions were running things. The arguments between them were largely over ideological purity vs political practicality. The practical faction considered the pure faction impractical and personally abusive, both of which had some truth to them. The pure people considered the practical people evil, and were quite outspoken about that.
I wanted to stay on the sidelines on that debate, but the pure people would not allow that. One was either on their side or an enemy. Take your pick, but those were the only options. No Sidelines Option was available. Ally or enemy. Take your pick.

While I eventually decided to simply leave the organization, I did decide that while people may not want to be other’s enemy, the decision is not up to them: it is up to those who demand all be either allies or enemies.

So, it seems to me that if BLM, the DNC, the RNC, or any other group declares me to be an enemy, then I am in fact their enemy. It doesn’t matter that I don’t want to be their enemy: it isn’t my choice. It’s theirs.

European Jews of all nationalities WERE enemies of the Nazis, not because they wanted to be but because the Nazis designated them as such. It wasn’t in the Jews’ power to not be enemies. It simply wasn’t up to them. It was up to the Nazis.

It also seems to me that one of the biggest failures of European Jews was the majority’s failure to understand that, internalize it, and act on that sad realization, either by fleeing or taking up arms and fighting their genocidal enemies.

There may not be much we can do to lessen the power or growth of the virulent racists on the left. Apologizing, self-flagellation, and submitting will be no more effective than it was for European Jews.

We can keep an eye on them, and we can in most states consider arming ourselves against overt violence. I think we should do so, because the time to prepare against assault is not after the assault has taken place but before. Steve Scalise was prepared with armed guards, and that preparation saved not only his own life, but those of the other Republicans at that soft ball practice.

Think of the so-called protests in Portland a few weeks ago, in which leftists blocked traffic, re-directed vehicles, and beat on vehicles. Suppose it had gone a bit further, and people were dragged from their cars and beaten. Would the time to prepare be the next day? Ask Reginald Denny after he was dragged from his truck and a cement block dropped repeatedly on his head. Minding his own business, until he was surrounded by people who designated him their enemy.

I don’t know how violent these leftists will get, nor how many allies they will attract, but it does seem important to keep an eye on them, and to prepare for worse violence than they are now committing, because at some point it may be too late to prepare. We won’t have the option of not being their enemy. It will be their decision, and by their own statements they have already made it.TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-84801545371478242432018-10-30T14:18:00.001-10:002018-10-30T14:18:10.460-10:00Putting An Anti-Undocumented Immigrant Hater In His PlaceYou apparently don’t understand: the US doesn’t produce enough native-born scofflaws, so we have to import foreign-born scofflaws to make up the shortage.

In order to be sure we aren’t wasting our tax dollars on law-abiding immigrants, we have to be sure we are importing actual scofflaws. The best way to do that is start with people whose very first act, crossing the border, is illegal. That way we know they have the right attitude.

The best kind of scofflaw is one who grew up in a country and culture which understands that rule of law is a scam to prevent dishonest people from getting ahead in life. They get here already understanding that government exists for the purpose of separating the poor from as much of their earnings as possible, and if we lure enough such people into the country with immediate subsidies, they will overwhelm the outdated rule of law attitudes of the local Americans and law-abiding immigrants who bothered to get green cards.

You gotta get with the program or else we will never join the poverty stricken countries which rightfully dominate the world.

Look at California: those people understand the importance of having no respect for the rule of law, and it shows up in the results.

In barely a generation they have gone from an exemplar of law-abiding Western Civilization middle class prosperity right back to noble Third World ultra-stratified poverty stricken masses with a tiny group of stunningly rich on the coast.

You need to understand that we can make the same achievement, but only if we put our minds to it, and repudiate lawful behavior. We need more scofflaws to show us the way. Almost a third of prisoners are Scofflaw-Americans. Well, actually Scofflaw-Hondurans, Scofflaw-Mexicans, Scofflaw-Guatemalans, and so forth. The real shortage today may actually be Scofflaw-Iranians and Scofflaw-Arabs, and people like you with your negative attitudes toward the Constitutional right of hostile foreigners to come here at will is a large part of the problem.

As our revered Senator Mazie Hirono said: “Just shut up.” Learn your place in society. You aren’t here to tell people like Maizie that you are dissatisfied with her policies. Your place is to ‘just shut up’. Or else.

And stop being so hide bound: pay your local legislators a few bucks under the table now and then when you need something done. Just like in Third World countries. Working together, we can do it!TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9842560.post-53781967754706105932018-06-15T09:34:00.000-10:002018-06-15T09:34:05.592-10:00“whiteness as a real and alarming force”If there is anything making me question moving back to the Mainland it is the Democratic Party’s promotion of Black vs White racial obsession.

From the NYT Magazine:

“The Trump era, however, has compelled an unprecedented acknowledgment of whiteness as a real and alarming force.“

“Chief among our remarked-upon habits is our...affinity for individuality, a supposed indifference to race that often reads more like ignorance of it.”

Funny: I thought indifference to race was a laudable goal. Apparently we are supposed to obsess about race. All other racial groups do, so why shouldn’t we? It is good that POCs do, so why is it bad for us? (Notice that in using the terms ‘we’ and ‘us’ I am speaking here exactly as the Democratic Party wants me to speak: not as an individual who tries to evaluate individual people on the basis of their character, but as a white person. ‘We’ in the Democratic Party’s parlance is the opposite of an inclusive term. It is based on racial exclusion. It does not evaluate people individually but on the basis of their membership in a racial group. Because, as the writer suggest, ‘our’ affinity for individualism is apparently an alarming thing.

I think that is a bad thing, but apparently I’m the bad person until I get with the program and think of myself and all others in terms primarily racial.

“White people are losing the luxury of non-self-awareness, an emotionally complicated shift that we are not always taking well. “

Do tell. Demand that everyone obsess about race and guess what: white people will be racially obsessed just like the writer. That’s a bad thing. A really bad thing. Unless you’re a Democrat, in which case white racial obsession is a really good thing so long as the obsession includes the ‘understanding’ that white people by ‘our’ nature are terrible.

“A majority of white Americans currently believe that their own race is discriminated against. News accounts fill with white resentment and torch-lit white-power marches.”

Discriminate enough against any race and members of that race will see themselves as discriminated against on the basis of race, but putting “torch-lit white-power marches” in the next sentence is a cute way of painting newly ‘racially aware’ whites -apparently the Democratic Party goal- as Kluxers. Which is apparently also how the Democrats want to see ‘us’.

The Democratic Party appears to want not race blindness but a race war. Think of their succeeding. Really: think about the personal consequences of a White/Black race war, with some Asians tossed in to keep things interesting.

I have a low enough opinion of Republicans, but Democrats are evil people. Instead of trying to unite Americans they consciously work at dividing Americans into mutually hostile racial groups, and have succeeded.

‘Race awareness’ and ‘race pride’ are explicitly racist concepts. They aren’t confined to white racists, either. Encouraging racial obsessiveness leads only to conflict.

This is going in a truly lousy direction unless one’s goal is to tear America apart. Which, I think, is the real goal, because they think individualist, capitalist America must be destroyed, replaced with racially obsessed collectivism.

One of the problems common to Republicans is their extreme hostility to fighting political street fights except by following Queensbury rules. There is only one rule in street fighting: 1) There are no other rules.

Remember the first Indiana Jones movie when a giant muscular Arab in the street twirls a scimitar to threaten Indiana Jones? Did Indiana pull out his own knife and fight the guy in fair fight? No. He pulled out a great big revolver and shot the guy. That's a street fight.

Gentlemen automatically lose street fights because they are more concerned with being gentlemen than they are with winning.

John McCain, Mitt Romney, all of Trump's primary opponents, were more committed to seeing themselves and being seen as gentleman than they were were in winning. They were all in street fights, so they all lost.

Romney was at a complete loss in 2012 when he, probably the most decent man to run for high office in our lifetimes, was routinely denounced as a Nazi, a hater and a despicable human being.

He had not the foggiest idea how to respond other than to maintain his gentlemanly attitude and deny it. He was the archetypal Nice Guy, and the old saying is 'Show me a nice guy and I'll show you a loser.' One NEVER wants to be called a nice guy by a street fighter, because he is explicitly calling one a loser. 'Explicitly' because all street fighters know the saying.

Trump was the only Republican to understand that he was in a street fight and to relish it. Like him or despise him, he was the only Republican with a shadow of a chance of defeating Clinton.

The upside is that while our opponents around the world are street fighters, even actual street fighters, Trump's delight in street fighting made him the only Republican qualified to take them on.

The Republicans finally nominated a street fighter, and by golly, he won.

How did that Romney presidency turn out? Oh....yeah....

My take: If California Democrats ever get serious about seceding, the Democratic National Committee will send organic polysexual ninja hit squads out there to kill every Democrat they have to in order to stop them.

Without Californian US Reps they could never hope to control the House, and without CA Democrat electors they would never again win the Oval Office.

I think the Republicans are smart enough to realize the security calamity and economic calamity of losing CA, so they would probably pat the Dems on the head and and say 'You go, girls!'TTBhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14116325672374991351noreply@blogger.com0
