Archimedes' Death Ray

Gotta love those MIT types:

Ancient Greek and Roman historians recorded that during the siege of Syracuse in 212 BC, Archimedes (a notably smart person) constructed a burning glass to set the Roman warships, anchored within bow and arrow range, afire.
Guess what the MITers discovered?

  1. I have deleted yet another of the scum-eating self-serving commercial Comments spammers who have been plaguing me lately. Well, actually just deleted his spam, not him personally. As Jimmy Carter used to say: Life isn't fair.

One of my few criticisms of the great SciFi flick "Starship Troopers" is Verhoeven's choice of a criminal to show briefly on screen, with the voice over of a newscaster saying something like "A murderer was caught this morning and tried this afternoon. Execution at 6:00. All Channels."

Instead of a murderer, Verhoeven should have called him a hacker. Or a spammer. Doing so would have given a stronger look into the soul of the Federation. And treated at least one hacker as some think they ought to be treated.

    Spammer delenda est.
