I have been focussing a bit obsessively lately on the effects of the government shutdown, in part because so many of the actions are both deliberate on the part of the executive branch, and because they seem to have been very little reported. So far as I can tell, they far exceed the pettiness of previous shutdowns. Since they are largely at the discretion of the executive branch officials, I lay the responsibility on our president.
