Racism, 'Racism", and "Microaggressions"

I think that the proper response to being denounced as racist today is to laugh heartily in the accuser's face. Then thank him/her for publicly admitting they have nothing with which to refute anything one has said, and must instead resort to shutting down the conversation with made up accusations.

The alternative is that the accuser is mentally ill, and should be treated with all the care any potentially dangerous person deserves.

Kevin Williamson discusses lefty racism in National Review.
Martin Bashir on the IRS scandal: “Republicans are using [it] as their latest weapon in the war against the black man. ‘IRS’ is the new ‘nigger.’” Touré on Mitt Romney’s vocabulary: “[He] said ‘anger’ twice. . . . I don’t say it lightly, but this is niggerization.” Jonathan Capehart: Mentioning that Obama went to Harvard is racist “because it insinuates that he took the place of someone else through affirmative action, that someone else being someone white.” Lawrence O’Donnell: “The Republican party is saying that the president of the United States has bosses, that the unions boss him around. Does that sound to you like they are trying to consciously or subconsciously deliver the racist message that, of course, of course a black man can’t be the real boss?” Janeane Garofalo: “Do you remember teabaggers? It was just so much easier when we could just call them racists. I just don’t know why we can’t call them racists, or functionally retarded adults.
The above speakers, of course, being Of The Left, are incapable of racism.

Or at least incapable of seeing their own vicious racism.

Amazon Comment

I did have to smile when I read this reply to a comment on Amazon's page for Emily Miller's book "Emily Gets Her Gun":
When you fascist tools do something more than call people names let me know.
Another commenter, identified as "Richard Ramey" made this charming contribution:
God willing every gun nut will shoot themselves in the head cleaning their guns
I guess it's an example of the New Civility the Democrats once snarled in favor of.

MoveOn.org Petition: Arrest GOP Leaders for Sedition

As a couple mere bloggers have commented: Think seriously about what the Left wants. They want it for you. MoveOn people are part of the Democrat movement. They want the government to arrest political leaders exercising their Constitutionally derived authority.
A petition on the MoveOn.org website is calling for the Department of Justice to arrest some House Republican leaders for their roles in the government shutdown and debt-ceiling debates.

The petition singles out Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and House majority leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.), as well as “other decision-making House Republican leaders,” for the crime of “seditious conspiracy against the United States of America.”
Jonathan Easley has more at The Hill.

It has gotten 29,000 signatures and counting. Thus go the Dems when it come to Valuing Diversity. And Tolerance, of course. We must never forget they are exemplars of Tolerance.
(The) attempt to extort the United States government into altering or abolishing the Affordable Care Act...is self-evidently a seditious conspiracy. Arrest the perpetrators in Congress immediately and bring them to justice,” the petition reads.

Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy toward the Bill of Rights: They can use their 1st Amendment rights to call for arrests, and if they ever get enough power to act, their victims have the 2nd Amendment ability to defend themselves.

The New Civility: Sacramento Democratic Party Version

Sacramento Democratic Party Communications Chair Allan Brauer apparently thinks that "May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases" is an appropriate Tweet about those with whom he disagrees.

But Republicans and Libertarians are repulsive, so it is apparently OK with the Democratic Party.

Detroiters Are Still Living in a Dream World

Virginia Postrel has an opinion piece about the possible forced sale of the Detroit Institute of Arts collection to satisfy creditors in the citys bankruptcy proceeding. Her take: It wouldn't be bad for the art or the country.

Predictably enough, Detroiters are not amused. Their comments tell me they still don't get it: For decades they have elected politicians who drove job creators and taxpayers out of the city, they racked up billions of dollars in debts they cannot pay, and not only don't want to suffer the consequences, they are outraged at the suggestion that they should.

They are also prone to tell people of differing opinions to just shut up.

Try telling that to the bankruptcy judge, Detroiters. See how far that gets you.

NRA Members: Traitors Fit for Firing Squads?

Christopher Swindell, Professor of Journalism, in the Charleston, WV, Gazette:
Probably the most serious miscalculation...is the guest list for the NRA speaker's podium. To let the half-wit half-term quitter Sarah Palin have a microphone is to alienate the very people Republicans need to work with on future legislation....

...The NRA advocates armed rebellion against the duly elected government of the United States of America. That's treason, and it's worthy of the firing squad....

... To support the new NRA president's agenda of arming the populace for confrontation with the government is bloody treason. And many invite it gladly as if the African-American president we voted for is somehow infringing on their Constitutional rights.
Ah, yes: it is so foundationally important that criticism of the President be based only upon racist objection to half his ancestry. There obviously cannot be any objection based on policy, nor is there any argument save that of racism that the government is infringing in any slight degree any Constitutionally enumerated rights. After all, the president is elected, therefore anything the President does is constitutionally authorized. If you disagree, you can only be doing so because you are racist. Just ask the AP. Or James Rosen. Or True the Vote. Or Gibson Guitar. I expect they would all tell you right up front that their objections to The President Who Was Elected are based entirely upon their own racism.

Send the NRA to Guantanamo?

All of us? Yet another newspaper has shown its fealty to the Constitution:
I have seen the light. After all these years, I now agree that it’s fruitless to give the benefit of the doubt to people who are so obviously corrupt, so clearly malevolent, so bent on hurting innocent people for their own sick gain.

No more due process in the clear-cut case of insidious terrorism. When the facts are so clearly before all Americans, for the whole world to see, why bother with this country’s odious and cumbersome system of justice? Send the guilty monsters directly to Guantanamo Bay for all eternity and let them rot in their own mental squalor.

No, no, no. Not the wannabe sick kid who blew up the Boston marathon or the freak that’s mailing ricin-laced letters to the president. I’m talking about the real terrorist threat here in America: the National Rifle Association.
As Aurora, CO, Aurora Sentinel editor Rick Perry's headline said "PERRY: WE CAN ONLY SAVE OURSELVES FROM KIDNAPPERS AT THE NRA
I’m talking about the real terrorist threat here in America: the National Rifle Association".

I'm glad to see that yet another so-called liberal is out of the closet on hewing to the Constitution. Gun killings are at a more than 40 year low, down 39% since the 1990s, gun injuries down 70%*, but Mr. Perry is outraged by fellow citizens who defend the Constitution's provisions which he despises. I wonder how he feels about having the government wire his thumbs behind his back and applying electrodes to his testicles, if only they assert that well, of course it is cruel, but since it is no longer unusual it it constitutionally authorized. Mr Perry seems to be one of those who use the Constitution as a shield without allowing others to do the same. That can come back to bite, and hard.

What choice, persuasive, words did Mr Perry write or quote?
...craven, lying, sniveling, cowardly U.S. senators cheated the very premise of American government to back their masters at the NRA...Nobody wants the mentally ill having a gun. Nobody, that is, except many of your senators. They just don’t care....not only did the liars at the NRA cheat the 90 percent of Americans ...the NRA has forced the action of about 45 ineffectual U.S. senators, a clear act of terrorism and treason. ...
Mr Perry has added a postscript which is remarkable for it's lack of insight. I replied just now:
Remarkable postscript, Mr. Perry. You wrote in your original column "No more due process...why bother with this country’s odious and cumbersome system of justice? Send the guilty monsters directly to Guantanamo Bay for all eternity and let them rot in their own mental squalor."

Then you profess surprise when your intended victims of government criminality take offense. "I am bewildered by the number of people who are paranoid about the U.S. government coming to enslave them. " Mr Perry, you editorialized in favor of the government doing exactly that. So where is the paranoia?

Remember when you wrote: "...many people are convinced that if they were forced to pass background checks at a gun show, or if Congress outlawed a list of guns that act like military assault rifles, that goose steppers would be knocking at their doors demanding papers and their weapons."? Sir, you just called publicly for the government to do exactly that and a good deal more, and you call gun owners paranoid?

Mr. Perry, your lack of self-awareness is remarkable. And your propensity for violence against people who just want to be left alone is exactly why people worry about people like you. You are the reason gun owners won't disarm. You are the direct threat to peaceful people.

Yes, Mr Perry, you are the goose-stepper.
You can read the whole sorry thing here.

* Just in case you doubt these assertions about collapsing gun crime rates, read an LA Times story here.

NRA = Nazis, But Easier to Defeat

How's that New Civility working?

Bob Schieffer on CBS:
Let's remember: there was considerable opposition when Lyndon Johnson went to the Congress and...presented some of the most comprehensive civil rights legislation in the history of this country...Surely, finding Osama bin Laden; surely, passing civil rights legislation, as Lyndon Johnson was able to do; and before that, surely, defeating the Nazis, was a much more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby.
So is Wayne LaPierre more like Osama bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, or Democratic Party National Committeeman Bull Connor?

And how does subverting the Constitution extend civil rights?

Tuxedoed Sashimi Fan Assaults Newt Gingrich

Speaker Newt has been bitten by a tuxedo clad sashimi eater. The world continues to spin out control.

Can't the opposition confine their activities to criticizing policy?

So much for the New Civility.

"the dance of the low-sloping foreheads"

What does David Carr of the New York Times really thinks of us? Try a remarkable moment of truth here:

I don't suppose this attitude at the Times has anything to do with NYT market cap being about equal to the value of their real estate holdings.

But it might have something to do with their statist belief that they have an inherent right to give orders to the rest of us.

Ed Driscoll has more.

Maybe He IS Moderate

I guess this is the New Civility:
Rep. Chuck Kruger (D-Thomaston), the Democrat chair of the Maine legislature’s Moderate Caucus, used his Twitter account to express his view that former Vice President Dick Cheney should be executed. This comment has led some to question the validity of Kruger’s moderate credentials.
I don't know why. It seems like a moderate Democrat kinda thing to do. All he said was:
“Cheney deserves same final end he gave Saddam. Hope there are cell cams,” a reference to technology that would allow Kruger to watch the proposed execution of the former Vice President of the United States.
So he's violent AND voyeuristic: seems like a totally moderate Democrat stance. And he approves of using new technology.

The whole story is right here.

Maureen Dowd's New Civility

I don't read the lady often, and this seems like encouragement to continue so:
(The Supreme Court) has squandered even the semi-illusion that it is the unbiased, honest guardian of the Constitution. It is run by hacks dressed up in black robes...

Just as in the Senate’s shameful Anita Hill-Clarence Thomas hearings...

John Roberts Jr...is deceiving; he’s a crimson partisan, simply more cloaked than the ideologically rigid and often venomous Scalia.

Just as Scalia voted to bypass that little thing called democracy...

Inexplicably mute 20 years after he lied his way onto the court, Clarence Thomas didn’t ask a single question...

Scalia, Roberts, Thomas and the insufferable Samuel Alito were nurtured in the conservative Federalist Society, which asserts that “it is emphatically the province and duty of the judiciary to say what the law is, not what it should be.”
And the duty of the judiciary to prevent the politicians from acting without Constitutional authorization, even if they they have majority opinion behind them.

Some people seem to think that good policy is automatically authorized. They seem to forget that others may have ideas on good policies which are quite different.

Michelle Malkin on the New Civility

The lefties have definitely found a new way to be civil.

One might almost confuse it with vulgar, sexist, boorishness.

I guess that's the beauty of Democratic nuanced thinking.

The New Civility

Princeton Professor Uwe Reinhardt has a good column in the Daily Princetonian suggesting that the school could do a far better job of recruiting veterans for students. Apparently there are currently only four such in the entire student body of 7859, and he thinks vets would bring some worthwhile diversity.

Cue the comments:
Prof Reinhardt, the article is hocus-pocus. It is with perfectly good reason that elite academic institutions try to stay clear of military personnel. If you want to see the kind of cultural trash, cretinous nationalism, chauvinism, racism, and brutality (they are training to kill, not do nuanced thinking. these are torturers, not humanists) in which the army traffics, take a trip down to West Point. The idea that an already mediocre student (that's usually why a person is joining the military, they've failed in those "ignoble" civilian pursuits) should get any kind of a leg-up, or be "reached out to" is malarky. Let's stick to encouraging the institution to reach out to talented students in the lower-class/under-represented demographics who can actually contribute great things and who merit the outreach. People join the military because they have failed an elemental moral test, not because they have moral vision....
Another:
Also, I might add, a soldier is not even one of the most dangerous jobs (if you can call it that) in America. I'm tired of being asked to thank them. They do not deserve thanks...we should loathe those who thrive on their service, expect further accolades, and try to use their "skills" against American people.
Change the objects of their vitriol, and these apparent Princes would fit in well at a Kluxer Konvention.

So much for valuing diversity.
